This weekend, I was talking with one of my dear friends. You know the sort I mean. One of those friends who can help you to make sense of all that life has to offer – the good, the bad, and the indifferent. Well, she helped me in my continued quest to make sense of my current healing from cancer journey.
We agreed that one of the biggest lessons I personally have to learn through this journey is that I AM worthy.
Sounds easy enough, right? One thing that I’m learning is that worthiness is akin to the Tardis. When you dig into the idea/concept, it’s bigger on the inside. There’s SO much to it!
“You are a Diva. Claim it!”
Essentially, that’s what my dear friend told me, but I resisted. Why? Because my internal definition of Diva differed from hers.
It reminded me of a great post I recently read from another dear friend of mine, Natasha of Natasha’s Creativity Spa. (What Are You Willing to Wait For?“) In it, she spoke about redefining words in our personal dictionaries that limit us and our potential.
For me, Diva has always held a negative connotation. It’s someone who is high maintenance and holds an extremely high opinion of themselves. Spoiled, entitled, and not the most pleasant of people to be around.
My friend’s definition differed. “Think Queen. Claim your crown.”
Later that day, as I was striving to claim my Diva-ness, I came across a great definition, one to replace my previous definition of Diva.
DIVA
[dee-vuh] Noun.A well-rounded femaile who boldly displays the five virtues of dignity, inspiration, vision, achievement, and sisterhood.
Now, is this an actual definition as it appears in the dictionary? I’m not sure. In truth, it doesn’t really matter to me. In my search, Spirit presented me with the definition that I needed – that I need in order to move forward on my path to greater healing.
Which words exist in your own personal, internal dictionary – your lexicon – that could stand a good replacement?
I would love to know! Please share them in the comments below.
Until next time, my dear friend, take care, and may you be well!
