Mindfulness: Response to The Daily Prompt – Observe

Well, hello there! Did you expect to hear from me again today? No? To be honest, I didn’t expect that you would hear from me.

I better be careful. This is becoming somewhat of a habit for me.

Am I intending to become a daily poster?

Not really. It’s just that inspiration has taken hold of me these past few days.

Who am I to question it, though? If Spirit wants to move through me, or in-spir(it)e me, I’m just going to go with it!

I was reading through my reader feed here on WordPress this morning and came across today’s update from The Daily Post. It was the Daily Prompt, and it was ‘observe’.

When I read it, “mindfulness” immediately popped into my mind.

What is mindfulness, you might ask?

A quick Google search will define it as:

mind·ful·ness

ˈmīn(d)f(ə)lnəs/
noun
  1. 1.
the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
“their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition”
  2. 2.
a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

When we are mindful, or consciously aware, of those things that occur or “gather” around us, I guess you could say that we’re “observing” our surroundings.

I don’t know about you, but I sometimes find – as I go through my day – that it can be quite a challenge to be mindful and in the moment.

There are so many things in our environment that seemingly scream for our attention. Not least of all, our mind.

Some years ago, I had a blog titled “Musings of a Mental Mystic”. I would like to say that it was an extremely accurate description of me “at the time”. Truth is that while I’ve gotten “better” at being conscious and “present” over the years, I sometimes still find it to be a challenge.

My mind can be a labyrinth at times. An obstacle course of thoughts.  Some benign. Others… Not so much.

I will say, though, that I have come a long way.

Periods of mindfulness do occur more frequently for me than they used to, but I do admit that my conscious observation muscle needs further strengthening before I’ll be able to be in a perpetual state of mindfulness.

How about you? Is conscious observation “Easy Peasy” or a more of a challenge for you throughout your day? Is there anything you do to make it easier? I would love for you to share your tips and tricks, if you would, in the comments below!

Much Love for You, my dear friend!
